Metal Body, Other Specs Confirmed for Galaxy S5 and its Derivatives

Rumors surrounding launch of Samsung's next-generation Galaxy S5 is a pickle once again, with talk of the company planning not one, but two main variants of its next flagship - one with a regular plastic body, and a more premium variant that's clad in metal.

That's right, not only will there be plastic and metal Galaxy S5 variants, but their sub-variants based on whether they support 4G LTE, then on internal storage size, and further down to colors. That should make for a big family portrait; but wait, there's more. Samsung is planning to give the Galaxy S5 the same treatment as the S4, by deriving a miniature, and one that's a crossover between a smartphone and a camera.

Here's the latest list of probable specs:

  • Possible 5.25-inch screen size
  • WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display resolution
  • Exynos 6 series processor for HSPA+ variant; Snapdragon 805 for the LTE variant
  • 16-megapixel BSI CMOS camera with OIS
  • Android 4.4 "KitKat" out of the box

Samsung could follow last year's routine with the launch cycle, by making announcements and slipping out information around March, and then launching the thing around April; because apparently, late (August-October) launches of similar, and often better equipped devices from competitors (think Xperia Z1, LG G2, etc.,) didn't dent Galaxy S4 sales in a big way.
